Past Tense

        অতীতত একে সময়তে দুটা ঘটনা বা কাৰ্য  সম্পূৰ্ণ হৈছিল--এটা কাৰ্য্য বেছি সময় চলিছিল আৰু আনটো কম সময়ত হৈছিল। বেছি সময় ধৰি চলা কাৰ্য্যটোৰ বাবে Past Continuous Tense আৰু কম সময়ত হোৱা কাৰ্যটোৰ বাবে Past Indefinite Tense ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয়। (Two related incidents took place in the past at the same. One incident was LONG and the other incident was SHORT. Past Continuous Tense is used for the incident which took a LONG time and Past Indefinite Tense is used for the action which was SHORT. যেনে-

The lady slipped while she was climbing the  steps.
He was crossing the road when a scooter hit him.
প্ৰথম উদাহৰণটোত মহিলাগৰাকী পিচল খাই পৰিছিল (The lady slipped) এই ঘটনাটো চমু (SHORT)। সেইবাবে ইয়াক Past Indefinite Tense ত লিখা হৈছে। আনহাতে মহিলাগৰাকীয়ে চিৰিয়েদি বগাই গৈছিল (she was climbing the steps) এই কামটোত বেছি সময় লাগিছিল (LONG TIME)। সেইবাবে ইয়াক Past Continuous Tense ত লিখা হৈছে।
1. He said to me, "What a talented boy you are!"
Ans:- He applauded/praised by saying that I was a very talented boy.
2. He said to Rekha, "How beautiful your hair is!"
Ans:- He applauded/praised Rekha by saying that her hair was very beautiful.
3. He said to me, "You have done a great job. Well done!"
Ans:- He applauded / praised me by saying that I had done a great job.
এনেকুৱা কিছুমান Exclamatory Sentence আছে যিবিলাকত exclaimed with sorrow / joy / surprise ব্যৱহাৰ কৰিব নোৱাৰি কাৰন এইবিলাক বাক্যত দুখ, আনন্দ বা আশ্চৰ্যৰ পৰিবৰ্তে প্ৰশংসা প্ৰকাশ পাইছে।সেইবাবে বাক্যবোৰৰ অৰ্থটো বুজি লোৱা উচিত।
