Ans:- Sophie was fond of dreaming. She dreamt of big things which were beyond her reach.Sophie wants to own a boutique. she will have the most amazing shop the city has ever seen. Besides having a shop, she desires to be an actress. She doesn't mind becoming a fashion designer either.
2. Did Sophie ever meet Daney Casey? When did she actually see Casey in person?
(or) Which was the only occasion when Sophie got to see Daney Casey in person?
Ans:- Sophie actually never met Daney Casey. She indulged in wishful thinking and dreams of meeting him. Her imaginary meeting gave her immense pleasure. She saw Daney Casey in person only once. She went with her family to the stadium to watch the match.She saw her hero in action there.
3. What was incongruous about the delicate bow which fastened the apron strings of Sophie's mother?
Ans:-Sophie watched her mother stooping over the sink. She wondered at the incongruity of the delicate bow that fastened her apron strings. The delicate-seeming bow and the crooked back revealed a picture of incongruity. It also spoke volumes about her mother's poor sense of dressing, poor taste and lack of sophistication.
4. Why did Jansie discourage Sophie from having dreams?
Ans:- Jansie was highly practical and worldly wise. She harboured an aversion to daydreaming. She was aware of the harsh realities of life and tried to dissuade Sophie from indulging in such unattainable dreams. Sophie belonged to a low income group and therefore her dreams of having a boutique, becoming an actress or a fashion designer were like building castle in the air.

Ans:- Sophie asks Casey an autograph for little Derek. Due to nonavailability of pen and paper, Casey promises to give his autograph when they would meet again next week.

Jansie came to know about the story of this meeting through Geoff. Sophie cursed Geoff for divulging her personal incident to Jansie who was supposed to spread rumours.

Ans:- Sophie is a teenaged girl who spends much of her time fantasizing about a glamorous and wealthy future though it is almost impossible to rise above her surrounding. She dreams of being a shop-owner and actress, or a fashion designer. But she has no money and her family has to struggle to make both ends meet. While Sophie is vocal and exuberant about her dreams, her family members and her friend Jansie actively discourage her. Sophie appears adrift in her home, alienated from all her family members except, perhaps, her older brother Geoff, whom she sees as a potential ally. To impress Geoff and the rest of her family, Sophie concocts an elaborate fantasy that she met Geoff's favorite football player, Danny Casey, who also wants to open a boutique. As she realizes that Danny Casey isn't coming, her heart is broken-not because she feels romantically jilted, or because she even wanted to meet Danny Casey, but because she knows she will have to confess to her family that he didn't come, and they will have one more reason to dismiss her. She was totally different from her practical friend Jansie.
