Ans:- the Emperor Xuanzong Commissioned Wu Daozi to paint a landscape to decorate a palace wall.

2. How has Nek Chand received international recognition? HS-2011 2
Ans:-Nek Chand has won worldwide recognition for his unique creation of Art frut or outsider art. With the help of stone and recycled material, he created a paradise in the form of Rock Garden in Chandigarh. The Swiss Commission organised a European exhibition in 2005 on Nek Chand's works of art. Thus Nek Chand by virtue of his untutored talent won international recognition.


3. What do you understand by the terms 'Outsider art and art brut' or raw art?
Ans:- A French painter by the name of Jean Dubuffet coined the concept of 'art brut' or 'raw art' in 1940s. Outsiders art' means those art who have not received formal traning or they have no right to be arists yet they show talent and artistic insight. So, Art brut or raw art is the art formed by the untrained artists. Nek Chand of India is a renowned artist of this genre of the art.
    

4. What is the concept of 'Shanshui'? HS-2012,2018
Ans:- In the Chinese painting the landscape is called Shanshui which literary means 'mountain water'. Mountain and water together represent the word lamdscape. They represent two complementary poles of reflecting the Daoist view of the universe. The mountain is 'Yang'. It stands vertically towards heaven. It is stable, warm and dry. 'Yin' is water. It stays horizontally resting on the earth. The latter is the receptive counterpart and both the two meets at a point called the middle void. Nothing can happen without it. This can be compared with the Pranayam in Yogic practice.

Ans:-Wu Daozi was a reputed Chinese painter of the eight century.

6. What did Wu Daozi paint for the emperor? HS-2016
Ans:- Wu Daozi painted a beautiful landscape for the emperor Xuanzong to decorate a palace wall.

7. Describe and contrast the features of the Chinese and the European art landscapes. HS-2015, 2016

Ans:-The Chinese paintings are based on imaginative, inner or spiritual approach  whereas the European paintings are based on an actual view of an external or real object. The paintings of the Wu daozi and mater painters of Europe illustrate the difference.

Ans:- Shanshui literally means 'mountain water' that represents 'landscape'. Mountain is Yang, that is stable, warm, dry and reaches vertically towards the heaven. While the water is Yin that is fluid, moist, cool and horizontally resting on earth.

Ans:-Jean Dubuffet was a renouned french painter.
    He propounded the concept of 'art brut' or 'raw art'.

Ans:- The Daoist view of the universe is expressed through the concept of 'Shanshui'. It means the 'mountain-water', which are used to represent the word 'landscape' and also the third element, middle void, which if often overlooked. Middle Void is the empty space where their interaction takes place.
