1. What hppened on Sunday afternoon? How did the author and his mother behave?
(Or) What does the author notice one Sunday afternoon?
(Or) What is his mother's reaction? What does she do?

Ans:- One Sunday afternoon the author saw smoke coming in through the ceiling. His mother ran out into the front yard carrying a small metal box. It had some important documents. She again ran into the house to get her husband's pictures and letters. The cat and the author were very much fond of each other. The cat was terrified when he saw the fire and ran over a mile away.
    The author broke down into tears after the fire because he could not find his cat anywhere. He loved his cat dearly.

2. Why was the author unhappy? What tragedy had been fallen him?
(Or) Why does he break down in tears after the fire?

Ans:- One Sunday afternoon the author saw smoke coming in through the ceiling. His mother ran out into the front yard carrying a small metal box. It had some important documents. She again ran into the house to get her husband's pictures and letters. The cat and the author were very much fond of each other. The author broke down into tears after the fire because he could not find his cat anywhere. He loved his cat dearly. So, he could not afford losing him.

3. How did the wonderful woman bring happiness back to the author's life?
(Or) What happened to the author's cat? How did he feel? How did he get his cat back?

Ans:- The cat and the author were very much fond of each other. The cat was terrified when he saw the fire and ran over a mile away.
    The author loved his cat very much. He broke down into tears after the fire because he could not find his cat anywhere.
    After the fire the author could not find his cat. A lady found the cat. She found the telephone number of the owner on its collar. She tried to contact the owner but failed because the telephone of the author was also burnt in fire. The lady took the pain in finding the owner of the cat. At last she handed over the cat to the author. After getting the cat the author felt happy.

4. Why is the author deeply embarrassed the next day in school? Which words show his fear and insecurity?
Ans:- The author suffered a great loss due to the fire. The fire and the loss of his cat made the author feel lonely. He went to school in his old clothes. The author was deeply embarrassed the next day in school because his clothes were dirty. He had no book, no homework with him. He felt that he was going to be an outcast and a geek. So, he was full of fear and insecurity.
    The words "weird", "geek" and "outcast" show his fear and insecurity,

5. The cat and the author are very fond of each other. How has this been shown in the story? Where was the cat after the fire? Who brings it back and how?
Ans:- One Sunday afternoon the author saw smoke coming in through the ceiling. His mother ran out into the front yard carrying a small metal box. The cat and the author were very much fond of each other. The author began to weep loudly when he failed to find the cat after the fire. The cat was terrified when he saw the fire and ran far away.
    A woman found it. Though the author's telephone number was on its collar, the telephone was burnt in the fire. So she took the pain in finding the owner of the cat. Then the cat was delivered to the author.

6. How did the people and his classmates help the author when he went to school the next day after the fire.
(Or) How did the schoolmates of the author "A House is not a Home” help him to overcome the tragedy in his life.
(Or) What actions of the schoolmates change the author's understanding of life and people, and comfort him emotionally? How does his loneliness vanish and how does he start participating in life?

Ans:- The author was deeply embarrassed the next day in school because his clothes were dirty. He had no book, no homework with him. He felt that he was going to be an outcast and a geek. The old teachers of the author encourage him. They asked him to take part in school. His schoolmates collected note books and different kinds dresses for him. People who met him showed great concern. These kindnesses and fellow feeling changed the author's feelings towards life and people. All these touched him very emotionally. He made friends and thus his loneliness vanished He then, started his life afresh.

7. What is the meaning of "My cat was back and so was I”? Had the author gone anywhere Why does he say that he is also back?
Ans:- The author wants to mean that he had come back to his earlier phase of life when his cat was back. The author had not gone anywhere but he was mentally very depressed. But when he found his cat back his mental pressure was released up to a great extent.
    He also had many new friends and started enjoying his life again. He was then totally out of his shock and depression. So, the author said that he was back.

8. Why did the author feel very sad when he went to school after the fire?
(Or) Why did the author feel embarrassed when the I news of the fire spread in the school.

Ans:- The author felt very sad when he went to school after the fire. The author felt embarrassed when the news of the fire spread in the school because everyone sympathized with him. He felt embarrassed due to much attention paid to him on this account. He felt isolated and lonely. His teachers advised him to take part in school activities.

9. How did the wonderful woman bring happiness back to the author's life?
(Or) How did the author feel after the cat had been returned to him?

Ans:- The cat and the author were very much fond of each other. The author began to weep loudly when he failed to find the cat after the fire. The author suffered greatly the loss and tragedy due to the fire. He had now new friends. He felt gratified to the lady who returned the cat to him. He was glad to have his cat back. He felt that his earlier days were back again and he had come to his earlier phase of life. 


10. What role did the author's friends play in rebuilding his life?
(Or) How did the school mates of the author of 'A House is not a Home' help him to overcome the tragedy in his life?
(Or) What action of the schoolmates change the author's understanding of life and people and comfort him emotionally?
(Or) Discuss the role of the classmates in comforting and changing the life of the body? How has he been relieved?

Ans:- The author suffered a great loss due to et the fire. The fire and the loss of his cat made the author feel lonely. He went to school in his old clothes. He was not properly dressed. He felt himself an outcast. So he felt ashamed. He was very sad. He wanted to die out of hi desperation.
    But by and by he saw great changes. His schoolmates were really nice to him. They arranged school items and clothes for him. The schoolmates were behaving like very close friends. Their feeling and affection touched his heart. They did not let him feel lonely. So, he realized that he was not alone. His cat had also returned. He felt interest in life again. He felt that he had returned to his earlier phase of life.
